BAM to Present A RITE as Part of 2013 Next Wave Festival, 10/3-5

The premiere of Igor Stravinsky's Le Sacre du printemps and the ensuing riot in response to its revolutionary sound and Vaslav Nijinsky's radical choreography has become music and dance legend. Since that fateful night in 1913, this innovative piece of music has inspired countless composers and choreographers. Coinciding with the centenary of the work, director Anne Bogart and choreographer Bill T. Jones present the New York premiere of their collaborative piece, A Rite, as part of the 2013 Next Wave Festival.
Austin Shakespeare's ANTHEM to Play Baryshnikov Arts Center, 9/25-12/1

The Austin Shakespeare Theatre Company will present the New York premiere of Ayn Rand's novel ANTHEM. Adapted for the stage by composer Jeff Britting, curator of the Ayn Rand Archives, previews for ANTHEM begin September 25 at the Jerome Robbins Theater at the Baryshnikov Arts Center (450 W. 37th Street). Opening night is scheduled for Monday, October 7th for a limited ten-week run through December 1, 2013.

Trinity Repertory Company previously announced that three local Rhode Island residents would be receiving Pell Awards this year in addition to Kate Burton, the recipient of the 2013 Pell Award for Lifetime Achievement in the Arts. The 17th annual Pell Awards will be held tonight, June 10, 2013 at Trinity Rep with a reception to follow next door at the Providence Public Library.

Today in 1982, Macbeth opened at the Circle in the Square Theatre, where it ran for 21 performances. Written by William Shakespeare, Macbeth is about a regicide and its aftermath. It is Shakespeare's shortest tragedy and is believed to have been written sometime between 1603 and 1607. The earliest account of a performance of what was probably Shakespeare's play is April 1611, when Simon Forman recorded seeing such a play at the Globe Theatre.

Written, directed, and designed by Richard Foreman, who has been working with The Public Theater for more than 36 years, OLD-FASHIONED PROSTITUTES (A TRUE ROMANCE) and runs through Sunday, June 2, in The Public's Martinson Theater, with an official press opening on Tuesday, May 7.

And for those keeping track, the company is closing in on Alumnae's 100th birthday - February 2013 will mark # 95! Alumnae will officially celebrate its 100th season in 2019/2020 and present Moliere's Les Femmes Savantes, which was Alumnae Theatre's very first production, in February 1918.
