Based on an inspiring true story, “THE SOUND OF MUSIC” is one of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s most beloved musicals. Set in Austria on the brink of WWII, Maria a postulant, proves too high-spirited for the religious life and is dispatched to serve as governess for the seven children of a widowed naval Captain. Her growing rapport with the youngsters, coupled with her generosity of spirit, gradually captures the heart of the stern Captain.

Following the recent death of the legendary songwriter and creator of the internationally-renowned Alan Parsons Project, Eric Woolfson, the late composer's musical POE -- about the life and works of Edgar Allan Poe -- is being introduced in the U.S. with the release of the CD, 'POE' (subtitled 'More Tales of Mystery and Imagination') and DVD, 'POE, The World Premiere Showcase Performance at Abbey Road Studios' on April 6, 2010.

The Blue Note Presents 'The Bad Plus', 4/6-4/11

The Bad Plus, a trio that the New York Times calls 'better than anyone at mixing the sensibilities of post-60's jazz and indie rock,' returns to the Blue Note from April 6 - 11. Featuring Ethan Iverson on piano, Reid Anderson and bass and Dave King on drums, The Bad Plus has released six albums to date. Their most recent effort, For All I Care (2009) included vocalist Wendy Lewis and featured covers of pop songs as well as 20th century classical works. All Music Guide calls the recording 'one of the most compelling releases yet by one of the new jazz's finest bands to emerge in the 21st century.'

School of Visual Arts Presents 21st Annual Dusty Film and Animation Festival and Awards May 2-7

The 21st annual Dusty Film and Animation Festival and Awards will highlight over 100 films by students graduating from the BFA Film, Video and Animation Department at the School of Visual Arts (SVA). The program includes screenings of short films, videos and animations; and an awards ceremony and gala with notable presenters from the film industry. This year's Screenwriters Night is a proud collaboration with The Neighborhood Playhouse School of the Theatre in which SVA graduating screenwriters will have selected scenes performed live by alumni from The Neighborhood Playhouse. All festival events take place at the SVA Theatre (333 West 23rd Street, between 8th and 9th Avenues).

A Noise Within (ANW) concludes its 2009-10 season with celebrated Irish playwright JOHN MILLINGTON SYNGE's THE PLAYBOY OF THE WESTERN WORLD directed by Co-Founder/Co-Artistic Director Geoff Elliott, which opens Saturday, April 17 and closes Saturday, May 22, 2010 (previews begin Saturday, April 10). The once controversial play - which sparked riots during and after its debut in Dublin in 1907, was booed in New York four years later, and resulted in the arrest of the Philadelphia cast on charges of staging an immoral performance - has since been recognized as a masterpiece.
