Broadway star Andrea McArdle is set to take on the iconic role of Miss Hannigan this summer in the North Carolina Theatre's production of ANNIE, according to published reports. McArdle is best known for her Tony-nominated performance of the title role in ANNIE during its original run on Broadway.

As the former captain and current coach of the New London Lady Leopard Varsity Cheer Squad, Doretha Bolingbroke will do anything to keep the cheer bloodline intact. Her daughter Halle is poised to become captain, but when Doretha's old rival Nuella Percy returns from exile with her own cheerleading-machine daughter Charmain, the women must wage an epic battle for control of the squad and cheerdom itself. Andrea McArdle, Broadway's original Annie, now stars as Annie's arch nemesis Miss Hannigan in the new production of 'Annie' at the North Carolina Theatre in Raleigh. The production runs through August 1st. To bring this beloved villain to life, McArdle undergoes a transformation every night...with the help of some make-up and a blonde wig. Make-up and wig extraordinaire Patricia DelSardo lends her skilled hands to help ensure that everything is place before the first bars of 'Tomorrow' are heard in the overture.

John A. Willis, who as editor of the Theatre World and Screen World annual series for over 45 years was often considered one of the most important theatre and film historians in America, died June 25, 2010, at his home in Manhattan, of complications from lung cancer. He was ninety-three years old. Willis was also the longtime producer of the Theatre World Awards, given to actors for outstanding Broadway and Off-Broadway debut performances. It is one of the oldest awards bestowed on New York stage actors and helped launch the careers of Alan Alda, Bernadette Peters, and John Leguizamo among many others.
