After auditioning performers in New York City, Los Angeles and Sacramento, Broadway Sacramento has confirmed casting for the six shows in the 68th Broadway At Music Circus season. The casts include a number of Broadway veterans-some of whom are making their Broadway At Music Circus debuts-and audience favorites from previous Broadway At Music Circus productions.

The Philadelphia Youth Orchestra's 2017-18 season has brought an exhilarating year of music education and performances to over 120 talented musicians, ages 14 to 21, marking the organization's 78th Anniversary. The Philadelphia Youth Orchestra 78th Annual Festival Concert will feature the World Premiere of Manhattan Nights by Kevin Day, who is the Second Annual Young Composers Competition Winner, A Salute to Leonard Bernstein with Symphonic Dances from West Side Story and Strauss' Ein Heldenleben, Op. 40. The concert will take place on Sunday, June 10, at 3 p.m., in Verizon Hall at the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts. George Street Playhouse's Annual Gala Benefit, held Sunday, May 6, at the Heldrich in downton New Brunswick, saw GSP Board President Dr. Penelope Lattimer honored with the Thomas H. Kean Arts Advocacy Award. The black-tie event also celebrated the work of renowned playwright and friend of the Playhouse, the late Arthur Laurents, who would have turned 100 this year, with performances of songs from West Side Story, Gypsy, La Cage aux Folles, and his other Broadway hits.

Broadway goes to Boston this summer! The Boston Pops has just announced its spring season, May 9-June 16, under the direction of Keith Lockhart, celebrating the centennial of Leonard Bernstein, one of the greatest international musical figures of the last century.

National Endowment for the Arts Chairman Jane Chu has approved more than $80 million in grants as part of the NEA's second major funding announcement for fiscal year 2018. Included in this announcement is an Art Works Musical Theater grant of $10,000 to CMT San Jose for their summer Mainstage production of West Side Story. The Art Works category is the NEA's largest funding category and supports projects that focus on the creation of art that meets the highest standards of excellence, public engagement with diverse and excellent art, lifelong learning in the arts, and/or the strengthening of communities through the arts.

Virginia Repertory Theatre announces the opening of West Side Story on Friday June 22, 2018 at the November Theatre/Arenstein Stage, 114 West Broad Street. The show will run through July 29, 2018.  Previews will be on Wednesday, June 20 and Thursday, June 21, 2018. With a book by Arthur Laurents, music by Leonard Bernstein and lyrics by legendary Broadway composer Stephen Sondheim, this classic musical retelling of Romeo and Juliet is set against the backdrop of New York's Hell's Kitchen in the 1950's.

Director Richard Israel is returning to Actors Co-op to helm the musical Violet. At the Co-op he has previously directed Our Town, The Baker's Wife and 110 In The Shade (LA Stage Alliance Ovation Award Winner for Outstanding Musical in an Intimate Venue), among others. Most recently, Richard was the Theatrical Coordinator for the multiple Emmy-award winning HBO series Big Little Lies, directing all of the Avenue Q sequences in the series. Hillbarn Theatre, the Peninsula's premier theatre company, announced that it has added crowd-favorite musicals WEST SIDE STORY andMAMMA MIA! to its 2018-19 season. Participating in the worldwide celebration of 'Bernstein at 100,' the FWYO will commemorate the 100th birthday of Leonard Bernstein by performing popular orchestral arrangements of his compositions: Overture to Candide and Symphonic Dances from West Side Story. In addition, guest soloist Pui Ying Wong and the Youth Orchestra will perform Tchaikovsky's formidable Violin Concerto. The FWYO's String Orchestra will also perform an arrangement of a selection from West Side Story.
