Village Theatre has announced casting for their production of the tap dancing spectacular 42ND STREET, directed by Steve Tomkins. This production will have one preview performance in Issaquah on Wednesday, May 12, 2010, and will officially open the following evening, running May 13-July 3, 2010 in downtown Issaquah, July 9-August 1, 2010 in downtown Everett.

In January of 2009, the new music world lost one of its greatest champions. The late philanthropist, photographer and writer Betty Freeman was without question the most significant American advocate for contemporary classical music in the second half of the 20th century. In her will, Ms. Freeman requested that no funeral be held, but instead a party be thrown in her memory. REDCAT is delighted to honor Ms. Freeman's request with Party for Betty!, a celebration of the life, work and legacy of Betty Freeman held at the Roy and Edna Disney/CalArts Theater on Wednesday, May 5, 2010 at 8:30 pm.

Rubicon Theatre Company continues its 2009-2010 Season with a revival of BETH HENLEY's Pulitzer Prize-winning play CRIMES OF THE HEART. Set in Mississippi in 1974 (five years after Hurricane Camille), this sweet, sexy comedy follows the travails of the three Magrath sisters, who come together at the family home in Hazelhurst when the youngest Babe is charged with shooting her husband 'cause she didn't like his looks.'

The Wilma Theater concludes its 2009 - 2010 Season with the U.S. Premiere of Leaving, by Václav Havel. The first play in 20 years from playwright and former Czech President Havel, Leaving will receive its U.S. Premiere production under co-Artistic Director Jiri Zizka's direction, with Academy Award® nominee David Strathairn (Good Night, and Good Luck) starring in the role of ex-Chancellor Dr. Vil?m Rieger.

Variety reports today that Liv Ullmann is confirmed to direct the John Mellencamp/Stephen King musical, The Ghost Brothers of Darkland County. The Swedish actress-director, who most recently made headlines for her direction of the Kate Blanchett-led A Streetcar Names Desire at BAM and The Kennedy Center, announced her participation in Darkland County on a Swedish radio broadcast.

The New York Philharmonic will present SONDHEIM: The Birthday Concert on March 15 and Tuesday, March 16, 2010, at 7:30 p.m. This celebration of the 80th birthday of the great Broadway and film composer/lyricist will include his most enduring orchestral music and songs - performed, in some cases, by the stars of the original Broadway cast productions - in addition to rarely-heard material. Joining the celebration will be (in alphabetical order) Michael Cerveris, Victoria Clark, Jason Danieley, Nathan Gunn, George Hearn, Patti LuPone, Marin Mazzie, Audra McDonald, Donna Murphy, Mandy Patinkin, Bernadette Peters, and others to be announced, including surprise guests. Village Theatre's Jason Kappus (John Truitt in Meet Me in St. Louis) has been cast in the 1st National Tour of the musical Legally Blonde. January 17, 2010 marks the final performance for Kappus before Seattle favorite Dane Stokinger comes in to finish out the run.
