The Twin Cities theater community honored Rick Shiomi, Artistic Director of Mu Performing Arts, with the Lifetime Achievement Award, and performer, director, and theatre creator Isabel Nelson with the Emerging Artist Award at the 8th annual Ivey Awards. The yearly celebration, held tonight, September 24, at the Historic State Theatre in downtown Minneapolis, honors and showcases the work of professional theater companies and artists over the past year.

The prominent and provocative racial justice scholar Cornel West is a well-known intellectual, but less well known is his love of Chekhov, the writings of Stella Adler and the theater. Dr. West values arts education for disadvantaged youth and is an aficionado of legendary acting teacher Stella Adler. As part of the Harold Clurman Festival of the Arts, Dr. West will participate in a panel discussion about the relationship between access to arts education and economic and social justice. The panel will follow a performance of Julius Caesar by students of the Stella Adler Studio of Acting's Outreach Division.

Capping off their highly successful 2012 Season, The Porters of Hellsgate have announced their next production, Shakespeare's dark comedy, Measure for Measure-the Bard's deft exploration of the arrogance of power.

The Servant of Two Masters, Carlo Goldoni's classic 1743 comedy-which provides the inspiration for Richard Bean's 2012 Tony Award-winning farce One Man, Two Guvnors-will be presented by Lipscomb University's theatre department, running September 21-23 and 27-29 at 7 p.m. each evening (with a matinee on Sunday, September 30 at 2:30 p.m.) at the university's Flatt Amphitheatre, adjacent to the Bennett Campus Center.

Northlight Theatre, under the direction of Artistic Director BJ Jones and Executive Director Timothy J. Evans, announces the full cast for Neil Simon's The Odd Couple, directed by Artistic Director BJ Jones. The comedy will play at Northlight Theatre, 9501 Skokie Blvd in Skokie, from November 2-December 9, 2012. The Press Opening is Friday, November 9, at 7:30 pm.

Johann Strauss II's popular operetta, Die Fledermaus, returns to the Canadian Opera Company after an absence of more than 20 years with a new production this fall. Strauss II outdid his own reputation as the "waltz king" of Vienna with Die Fledermaus by composing some of opera's most enduring dance music for this hilarious comedy with its screwball plot of elaborate revenge, disguises and mistaken identity. A largely Canadian cast, led by internationally renowned tenor Michael Schade in a role debut, comes together in this new COC production by innovative director Christopher Alden with COC Music Director Johannes Debus conducting. Die Fledermaus is sung in German with English SURTITLES™ and runs for 11 performances at the Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts on Oct. 4, 9, 12, 14, 17, 20, 24, 27, 30, Nov. 1 and 3, 2012.

Chicago Shakespeare Theater (CST) announces casting for the 2012 Fall Season. The Tony Award® and Pulitzer Prize-winning musical, Sunday in the Park with George by Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine will be staged by CST Associate Artistic Director Gary Griffin, September 26-November 4, 2012 in CST's Courtyard Theater. All skills courses are fully residential with accommodation and rehearsal space located in some of the country's best universities and boarding schools.
