SERVANT OF TWO MASTERS, Directed By Robyn Berg, Opens Lipscomb Theatre's 2012-13 Season

By:

The Servant of Two Masters, Carlo Goldoni's classic 1743 comedy-which provides the inspiration for Richard Bean's 2012 Tony Award-winning farce One Man, Two Guvnors-will be presented by Lipscomb University's theatre department, running September 21-23 and 27-29 at 7 p.m. each evening (with a matinee on Sunday, September 30 at 2:30 p.m.) at the university's Flatt Amphitheatre, adjacent to the Bennett Campus Center.

Directed by Robyn Berg, The Servant of Two Masters was called an "unforgettable, undiminished delight" by Milwaukee Weekly.

Through a hilarious set of circumstances, quirky, ever-hungry servant Truffaldino finds himself serving two masters in hopes of gaining extra dinners. Unfortunately, his two masters are Beatrice and Florindo, an adoring couple separated by tragic circumstances. Now they are on the hunt for one another, and Truffaldino must use every trick in the book to keep them from discovering his double life as the servant of two masters.

Berg, an adjunct theatre professor at Lipscomb, directs the production. Her Nashville acting credits include Nashville Shakespeare Festival's Julius Caesar, Actor's Bridge Ensemble's Sailor's SongMagic at Blackbird Theatre (Lipscomb's professional theater-troupe-in-residence) and multiple shows with Rhubarb Theatre. She has directed productions of Death of a Salesman, Leading Ladies, Once Upon a Mattress and The Curious Savage at Lipscomb University and Lipscomb Academy. Berg also spent many years performing with the Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey.

Tickets are $15 for the public, $10 for university faculty and $5 for students. This play is suitable for all audiences. Tickets are available online at www.lipscomb.edu/theater, through the Lipscomb University Box Office at (615) 966-7075 or through TicketsNashville.com.
