The 2010-2011 season for Broadway Grand Rapids (BGR), while marking the company's 23rd year, raises the curtain on an impressive new level of performance. The stage was set with the exciting news that Broadway Grand Rapids and Michigan State University's Wharton Center for Performing Arts have established a partnership that is dramatic - literally and figuratively. For theater lovers throughout West Michigan, this pairing creates an enhanced opportunity to secure top-notch shows for the DeVos Performance Hall venue. The new season reflects the power and the theatrical magic that the organizations have been able to conjure up together. This includes the return to a 5 show subscription series and the additional of 4 special events, the most offered in a BGR season. The subscription series will include Rodgers & Hammerstein's South Pacific, Legally Blonde The Musical, In The Heights, Grease and Shrek The Musical. In addition to the subscription series, BGR will also offer CHICAGO, STOMP, New Shanghai Circus, and The Aluminum Show.

Goodspeed Musicals, the only two-time Tony Award winning theatre in the country, has announced that they will produce three new musicals at The Norma Terris Theatre in Chester, Conn. Kicking off the season is Band Geeks!, the homegrown smash hit from Goodspeed's 2009 Festival of New Artists. This feel-good musical comedy will run from May 13 through June 6. The darling Radio Girl, based on the much loved classic Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm, will charm audiences July 29 through August 22. The third new musical, which will be announced soon, is scheduled to run October 21 through November 14.

Last night, Monday, May 10, The New Group opened their latest production of The Kid. This marks the final production in The New Group's current 2009-2010 season, which featured Kenneth Lonergan's The Starry Messenger and most recently, the hit revival of Sam Shepard's A Lie of the Mind, directed by Ethan Hawke. The Kid plays a limited Off-Broadway engagement through May 29 at The New Group @ Theatre Row. BroadwayWorld was on hand to capture the opening night after party arrivals.
