FRIGID New York @ Horse Trade will present a Cuppie 43 Productions (KL Thomas, Producer) presentation of Libby Emmons' I Am Not An Allegory (these are people I know), directed by Ali Ayala. The show will run March 10-26 at UNDER St. Marks (94 St. Marks Place between 1st Avenue and Avenue A) with performances Thursday through Sunday at 8pm. NYC Parks' Ocean Breeze Track & Field Athletic Complex has been chosen to host the 2017, 2018, and 2019 New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA) Girls and Boys Indoor Track & Field State Championships.  Meets will take place on March 3, 2017, March 2, 2018, and March 7, 2019. Approximately 1,200 high school girls and boys from across the state participate in the event each year.

Alexa Ray Joel Returning to Cafe Carlyle in October

Cafe Carlyle is pleased to welcome back Alexa Ray Joel for a two-week engagement, October 20-31. Reviewing a previous engagement at the Cafe, The New York Times called Joel, daughter of music legend Billy Joel and supermodel Christie Brinkley, "a singer following her own heart," adding, "Her original work… is firmly grounded in a pop tradition in which streams converge, from gospel to Tin Pan Alley. The songs are bluntly melodic, lyrically direct and catchy." Since she was 15, Joel has been writing complete songs and complementing those songs with piano accompaniment, and writing poetry. At Cafe Carlyle, Alexa Ray Joel will perform original material in addition to giving her signature style to a set of popular songs. She'll be accompanied by Carmine Giglio on piano.

Gabrielle Stravelli to Release New Single in Anticipation of 54 Below Solo Debut

GABRIELLE STRAVELLI - the celebrated pop/jazz vocalist and songwriter called an "outstanding singer" by The Wall Street Journal and "hotter than the equator" by The Village Voice, will celebrate her upcoming self-titled CD with her debut solo engagement at 54 Below for four concerts directed by Grammy Award nominated nightlife legend Marilyn Maye, starting on Tuesday, September 29. The new album, produced by David Cook (Taylor Swift, Jennifer Hudson, Marianne Faithfull), will be released later this season. The recording's first single - a passionate reworking of the Cole Porter classic "Dream Dancing" - will be available on iTunes on Friday, September 25. The show's centerpiece is a selection of Gabrielle's sophisticated original songs, in addition to classic standards and numbers by Bob Dorough ("Where Is the Song?"), Brian Wilson ("Busy Doin' Nothin'") and The Indigo Girls ("The Power of Two"). For the engagement, Stravelli will be joined by Joshua Richman on piano, Pat O'Leary on bass and Eric Halvorson on drums.

On February 12, 1915, the Abrons Arts Center's Henry Street Settlement Playhouse opened its doors on the Lower East Side. Since that day, it has remained a vital cultural resource, providing audiences with artistically bold work while offering artists opportunities to dynamically grow. Since becoming Abrons Director in 2006, Jay Wegman has done much more than maintain 'one of the last standing locations for avant-garde performance downtown' (The New York Times, 2009). He has created an arts venue that is unique on the city's cultural landscape, presenting an international mix of cutting-edge performing and visual artists, both established and emerging, from across the country and around the world, as well as from New York City.
