Roundabout Theatre Company (Todd Haimes, Artistic Director), in association with Ryan Murphy, just announced that Academy Award nominee Michael Shannon will return to Broadway as "James Tyrone, Jr." in Eugene O'Neill's Long Day's Journey Into Night, joining the previously announced Academy and Emmy Award winner Jessica Lange as "Mary Tyrone," Golden Globe winner and Tony Award nominee Gabriel Byrne as "James Tyrone," and Tony Award winner John Gallagher Jr. as "Edmund Tyrone." Jonathan Kent will direct, as part of Roundabout Theatre Company's 50th anniversary season.

Joining the previously announced Andrea Martin as 'Dotty Otley' are Campbell Scott as 'Lloyd Dallas,' Tracee Chimo as 'Poppy Norton-Taylor,' Daniel Davis as 'Selsdon Mowbray,' David Furr as 'Garry Lejeune,' Kate Jennings Grant as 'Belinda Blair,' Megan Hilty as 'Brooke Ashton,' Rob McClure as 'Tim Allgood' and Jeremy Shamos as 'Frederick Fellowes.' The 69th Annual Tony Awards are this Sunday June 7th at 8/9c hosted by Kristin Chenoweth and Alan Cumming. Signature Theatre has announced that the unique World of the Play series continues with "Exploring Outsider Art." This World of the Play event will explore the work of Outsider Artists like the self-taught Nukain Mabusa, whose life and work inspired Athol Fugard's The Painted Rocks at Revolver Creek. The panel of experts for this exciting discussion include gallerist Andrew Edlin, arts journalist Edward M. Gomez, and curator Kristin Sancken. The discussion will be led by moderator Brian Phillips. The event is free and open to the general public (no reservations required).

Till's brutal lynching, the acquittal of his killers, and his mother's insistence on an open casket exposed hidden truths of the Jim Crow South and stunned the world, striking a chord in the national conscience.

Tony Award-winning costume designer, JESS GOLDSTEIN (currently represented on Broadway with Jersey Boys and On the Town), and scenic designer DOUGLAS W. SCHMIDT are among the 2015 TDF/Irene Sharaff Awards recipients. The awards will be presented at a ceremony on Friday, May 1, at 6:30pm, at the Hudson Theatre (145 West 44th Street). Mr. Goldstein was selected to receive the 2015 TDF/Irene Sharaff Lifetime Achievement Award for costume design and Mr. Schmidt will receive the Robert L.B. Tobin Award for Sustained Excellence in Theatrical Design.

The critically acclaimed New York, Off-Broadway hit musical Inside Out will celebrate its 20-year anniversary at the Grove Theatre Center in Burbank, CA February 12th - March 22nd, it was announced today by Kritzerland Entertainment and PlayWorks Music. Veteran TV/Film/Theatre/Actor/ Author/Performer/Playwright and CEO of Kritzerland Records Bruce Kimmel has been set to direct the musical by Doug Haverty (book and lyrics) and Adryan Russ (lyrics and music). An all-star female ensemble/cast of six features Sandy Bainum, Cynthia Ferrer, Stephanie Fredricks, Dana Meller, Leslie Stevens and Adrienne Visnic. Preview performances are February 12th and 13th with the show's official opening scheduled for February 14th.

Jean-Claude Baker, Owner of Theatre District Restaurant Chez Josephine, Dies at 71

Jean-Claude Baker, owner of Chez Josephine, passed away earlier this morning at the age of 71. Chez Josephine is a French restaurant that is well-known amongst the Broadway community and was referred to as a 'Cocktail of human beings' by Baker.

Broadway fans had plenty of reasons to celebrate this year, with dozens of shows having opened since January, hundreds of actors having made their debuts, and many more having returned to the stage for critically acclaimed performances. Not all news was good though, as we also suffered a loss of an incredible amount of talent. Below, BroadwayWorld sends a fond farewell to those who passed away in 2014.
