Village Theatre Presents Aida

Village Theatre brings the 2007-2008 Season to a climactic close with Elton John and Tim Rice's pop-rock musical sensation AIDA. This production features the visionary direction of Village Theatre's Artistic Director Steve Tomkins [Village Theatre Mainstage: The King and I, EVITA, CATS] and Brian Yorkey [Off Broadway: Next To Normal; Village Theatre Mainstage: the Footlight Award-winning The Who's
TOMMY (director), EVITA (co-director), Play It By Heart (book), Making Tracks (lyrics/co-book)].  Winner of four Tony Awards, one Drama Desk Award, and a Grammy for Best Musical Show Album, AIDA is bursting with energy and teeming with vibrant song and dance. This epic tale of loyalty, betrayal, and forbidden love is based on Giuseppe Verdi's classic opera. Fused with contemporary sounds borrowed from reggae, Motown, gospel, and international beats of Africa, India, and the Middle East, Elton John and Tim Rice's pop-rock powerhouse turns the legendary tale of  AIDA into an exhilarating and rousing musical event. With hit songs like, "My Strongest Suit" and "Written in the Stars," this show is filled with unforgettable music and an indelible story.

Elton John's score is a masterful blend of rock and R&B with an exciting fusion of the contemporary musical theatre sound," director Steve Tomkins comments.Village Theatre's production of Elton John and Tim Rice's AIDA is directed by Steve Tomkins and Brian Yorkey, with choreography by Steve Tomkins, musical direction by Tim Symons, scenic design by Carey Wong, light design by Tom Sturge, costume design by Karen Ledger, and sound design by Don Littrell.
