Twelfth Night Plays Whidbey Island Center for the Arts Thru April 23

Whidbey Island Center for the Arts, under the leadership of Executive Director Stacie Burgua, is proud to present William Shakespeare's gender-bending, romantic comedy "Twelfth Night" at WICA, 565 Camano Avenue, Langley, WA April 08 - 23, 2011.

Set in the magical Mediterranean kingdom of Illyria, "Twelfth Night" follows Viola, a shipwreck survivor, determined to make her way in her new homeland.
Like many of Shakespeare's comedies, this one centers on mistaken identity. Viola loses contact with her twin brother, Sebastian, whom she believes to be dead. Under the guise of a man named 'Cesario,' she becomes a page to Duke Orsino who is in love with Countess Olivia.

Crazy for love... Both Orsino and Olivia's households have love on the brain.
But who, really, are the objects of desire? After Viola disguises herself and falls in love with Orsino, she becomes entangled in an awkward romantic triangle. Things come unglued, but for almost everyone, Shakespeare's treasured comedy ends happily.

Roaring, rollicking, and romantic, "Twelfth Night" is a spectacular concoction of cross-dressing and confusion.

"Twelfth Night" is directed by Tristan A.B. Steel. The cast includes Ethan Berkley (Sir Andrew Aguecheek), Morgan Bondelid (Maria), Tom Churchill (Sir Toby Belch), Steve Ford (Curio), Kent Junge (Malvolio), Sophia Larson-Wickman (Valentine), Melanie Lowey (Viola), David Mayer (Feste), Nicole Parnell (Olivia), Andrew Pearce (Sebastian), Brian Plebanek (Orsino), Larry Woolworth (Sea Captain / Fabian), Dwight Zehm (Antonio); Mackenna Kelly, Brooke Sinclair, and Noelle Weiner (Ensemble).

The Creative Team includes Robert W. Prosch (Musical Direction), David Gignac (Scenic Design), Valerie Johnson (Costume Design), John Pultro and Alex Wren (Lighting Design), Kathy Stanley (Stage Manager).

ABOUT THE DIRECTOR
Tristan A.B. Steel (Director) studied theatre and vocal performance at Yale University and the Paul Mellon Centre for Studies in British Art in London, UK. He holds a degree in Dramaturgy from Yale University with a special concentration in Elizabethan and Jacobean drama, which he studied under the tutelage of Harold Bloom. A Puget Sound native, Tristan has studied and performed with Cornish College, Pacific Northwest Ballet, Seattle Symphony, Seattle Opera, Seattle Children's Theatre, Ann Graham and the Northwest Actors' Studio, Seattle Men's Chorus, and several fringe companies. He is an alumnus of The Society of Orpheus and Bacchus, the second oldest collegiate a cappella chorus in the nation. A selection of Tristan's favorite roles include Alan in Equus, the Interviewer in The Shadow Box, Jim in The Glass Menagerie, Puck in A Midsummer Night's Dream, Matt in Talley's Folly, Andrew in Blood Relations, the Writer in The Good Doctor, Matt in The Fantastiks, and Andrei in Three Sisters. He has also appeared in Hair, Jesus Christ Superstar, Anyone Can Whistle, Into the Woods, and City of Angels directed by Tony Award-winner Dan Siretta. Tristan's most chilling performance was a song about "shoes" before Imelda Marcos. He is excited to join the WICA family with this production.
