Tacoma Musical Playhouse and The Boeing Co. are proud to present the exciting Regional Premiere of the ground-breaking musical, RENT. A rock musical loosely based on Puccini's opera La bohème, RENT tells the story of a group of impoverished young artists and musicians in the late 1980s struggling to survive and create in New York's Lower East Side in the thriving days of Bohemian Alphabet City, under the shadow of AIDS.

The musical was first seen in a limited three-week production at the New York Theatre Workshop in 1994. On Broadway, RENT gained critical acclaim with over two-dozen award nominations, including 10 Tony Award nominations. Among its many awards, the show received four Tony Awards (including: Best Musical, Best Book and Best Original Score), as well as the 1996 Pulitzer Prize for Drama. The musical is largely responsible for helping to increase the popularity of musical theater amongst the younger generation. The Broadway production closed on September 7, 2008, after a 12-year run and 5,124 performances, making it the seventh longest-running Broadway show.

In the Puget Sound region's first local production of RENT, TMP has teamed with show sponsor, The Boeing Co., and assembled an exceptionally gifted cast of some of the area's most talented young singer/actors, including: Aaron Freed, Matt Posner, Kevin Douglass, Katin Jacobs-Lake, Antonia Darlene, Thaddeus Wilson, Jesse Smith and Alison Monda. Advance ticket purchase is strongly recommended for this very popular show.

Performances of RENT are Fridays & Saturdays at 8 pm, and Sundays at 2 pm, with Saturday matinees at 2 pm on February 6th and 13th. All performances will take place at Tacoma Musical Playhouse, 7116 6th Avenue in Tacoma. All seating for TMP and TCMT productions is reserved, so advance purchase is strongly recommended. Tickets are $25 for adults, and $23 for students, seniors and military. Student Rush tickets are $18 for opening weekend performances. Group rates are available.
