Brighten up these long winter nights with the electric new musical Xanadu! TMP will present the first local production of Douglas Carter Beane's fantastic farce based on the 1980's Universal Pictures cult classic film of the same name starring Olivia Newton-John and Gene Kelly.

Xanadu follows the journey of a magical and beautiful Greek muse, Kira (played by Leah Wickstrom), who descends from the heavens of Mount Olympus to Venice Beach, California in 1980 on a quest to inspire a struggling artist, Sonny (Matt Posner), to achieve the greatest artistic creation of all time - the first roller disco! But, when Kira falls into forbidden love with the mortal, her jealous sisters take advantage of the situation and chaos abounds.

This hilarious, roller skating, musical adventure about following your dreams despite the limitations others set for you, rolls along to the original hit score composed by pop-rock legends Jeff Lynne and John Farrar, and includes, "Magic", "All Over The World", "Suddenly", "I'm Alive", "Evil Woman" and "Xanadu", to name a few.

Xanadu runs for 14 performances January 20-February 12, 2012. It plays Fridays & Saturdays at 8 pm, Sundays at 2 pm, and Saturday 2/4 & 2/11 at 2 pm. All performances take place at Tacoma Musical Playhouse, 7116 6th Avenue in Tacoma. All seating for TMP Mainstage and TCMT productions is reserved, so advance purchase is strongly recommended. Matinee performances, in particular, are filling very quickly. Ticket prices are $27 for adults and $25 for seniors, students and military. Student Rush prices ($20) are always available for all Opening Weekend performances and a group rate is available for groups of 10 or more. Be sure to check out TMP's special Club Night and Date Night offers on the website. Xanadu is recommended for theatergoers age 13 and older. All patrons are encouraged to attend TMP's FREE preview presentation, Behind the Curtain! at TMP on Sunday, January 15 at 7 pm to learn more about the show and our production.  For tickets or more information, please visit www.tmp.org or call the TMP Box Office at 253-565-6867.
