Sue Frause Returning to WICA, 3/7

By:

Wear your most comfortable pajamas and join Sue Frause, her culinary guests and the Kitsch 'n Bitch Band for the next fun-filled episode of Kitsch 'n Bitch, "Breakfast for Dinner" at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, March. 7.

Anything can happen under the "Kitsch Cam," which is a camera that catches all the action of the show's cooking demonstration, while Frause plays host, the band entertains and everybody gets to sample some delicious food and drink.

"It's all very organic," Frause said of the show.

"It's kind of like the live TV shows of old; everyone comes up on stage, including live chickens, and bald-headed chefs and my roots showing on the overhead camera."

Indeed, K&B stage managers Deana Duncan and Taylor Harrison have a fount of stories from previous shows involving locals dressing in drag as Julia Childs, one chef making a marriage proposal to his sweetheart from the stage, and some unfortunate chickens and one goat, who experienced a bit of stage fright.

"The chickens were terrified," Duncan said, "You could see their eyes getting huge as a dry-ice fog rolled toward them."

Luckily, there won't be any scared chickens at "Breakfast for Dinner," where local restaurateurs Lisa Carvey of Langley's Braeburn Restaurant will create her "Stuffed Apple French Toast" and Neil Colburn of Bayview's Neil's Clover Patch will make his popular Crab Quiche under the "Kitsch Cam."

Behind the bar, The Tipsy Gourmet owners, Kate Johnson and Karla Berry, will whip up some refreshing mimosas during the proceedings, at the end of which will be a "Best Dressed Down PJ's" contest.

Frause added "As a kid, I always loved when my dad would go to Lions Club on Monday nights. My brother and I ate on TV trays and often had breakfast for dinner - my favorite were Swedish Pancakes my Mom made in her black cast iron fry pan - the best!"

The favorite Kitsch 'n Bitch moments for Duncan?

"All of Sue Frause's opening monologues, and eating and drinking with the audience after every show," Duncan said.

Kitsch 'n Bitch is at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, March 7 at Whidbey Island Center for the Arts in Langley. Tickets are $15.
