The 175 women who make up Seattle Women's Chorus have the perfect remedy to cure any post-Valentine's Day blues. At their winter concert, Shot Through the Heart on February 18 and 19 at 2:00pm they will sing their hearts out while taking a hard look at the good, the bad, and the hilarious aspects of love. This delicious and tastefully irreverent concert delivers just the right amount of sarcasm, sentimentality, and humor to keep audiences entertained.

The show's repertoire spans the musical spectrum from classical to contemporary pop; and includes old favorites like "My Funny Valentine" and "Embraceable You" as well as edgier numbers like Christina Aguilara's "Candyman" and Holly Near's "Simply Love." "It runs the gamut… musically and topically," said artistic director Dennis Coleman. "We're singing about love: puppy love, euphoric love, passionate love, tragic love, goofy love, and those all too familiar love/hate relationships. And we're covering these themes in music styles that will appeal to a wide range of tastes. This is music you'll love to listen to."

This concert also affords audience members a unique opportunity to surprise the object of their affection with a very special and very public proclamation of love. For a tax deductible donation of $300, an audience member can dedicate one song from the Saturday or Sunday performance to a special someone. And, if one dedication isn't quite enough, for $500, you can dedicate the same song for both performances! The personalized dedication will be printed in the concert program for all to see. The list of songs available for dedication include: "My Funny Valentine," "Cheek to Cheek," "The Shoop Shoop Song" (It's In His Kiss), and k. d. lang's coming?out anthem, "Sing it Loud." Dedications are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Some songs are already sold out. A complete list of songs, and availability is available online at SeattleWomensChorus.org, or by calling Colleen Dodson, development director, at (206) 323-0750 x222.
To add to the emotional depth of the evening, Eric Lane Barnes, assistant artistic director and frequent composer/lyricist for the Chorus, is collecting personal stories from among the 175 singers to weave into the concert. They will tell a wide range of love experiences from their collective past and will be narratives and scenes that will play out between the songs.
