Seattle Public Theater's Youth Program to Stage THE GOVERNMENT INSPECTOR, 8/2-4

By:

Seattle Public Theater's (SPT) Youth Program presents Jeffrey Hatcher's adaptation of Nikolai Gogol's timeless satire, The Government Inspector. Performances run August 2-4 at the historic Bathhouse Theater on Green Lake.

Four [free] performances: Friday, August 2 @ 7pm, Saturday, August 3 @ 2pm & 7pm, and Sunday, August 4 @ 2pm. Donations are encouraged, and are used for scholarships and support of SPT's theater education programs.

When corrupt small town politicians learn of an undercover government inspector's impending surprise visit, an unfortunate case of mistaken identity sends the community spiraling into a state of chaos. Originally produced in 1836, the biting satire and nimble wit of The Government Inspector is more relevant now than ever.

"Jeffrey Hatcher's adaptation of The Government Inspector is a beautiful study in comic story-telling and comic acting styles," says director Shawn Belyea (Balagan's August: Osage County). "The characters, the situations, and the dialogue all offer ample opportunities for young actors to develop their comic chops. This production engages young people with its amazing characters, hilarious physicality, and lightning fast comic dialogue. And on top of all that, we're having a blast!"

Directed by Shawn Belyea and assistant directed by Rachel Delmar, The Government Inspector features the acting talents of Aaron Sterne, Alex Matteson, Annika Prichard, Anya Jones, Cecelia Matteson, Chloe Swedberg, Coulter Dittman, Davey Moody, Eileen MacDonald, Finn Hammen, Gabe Airth, Helen Chamberlin, Margaux Daniel, Nate Mascis, Nora Hammen, Oscar Loveless, Rachel Rosenbloom, Samuel Trott, Sofia James, Stellan Rude, and Tiamo Minard. The production is stage managed by Ashley Arthur with the additional talents of Michael Zunick (Assistant Stage Manger), Sequin Hutton and Jason Zevenbergen (Running crew), Andre Aboltins (Teaching Assistant), and Finn Johnson (Sound Design).

Seattle Public Theater (SPT) is a mid-size, 501 (c) (3) non-profit professional theater on the shores of Green Lake. Specializing in main stage theater and youth theater education, SPT is dedicated to inspiring community through intimate, powerful professional theater and dynamic education programs.
