Seattle Public Has Seattle Premiere of Jenny Chow

By:

Seattle Public Theater will present the Seattle Premiere of Rolin Jones' The Intelligent Design of Jenny Chow, May 19-June 11, 2006 . Carol Roscoe is set to direct.

Jennifer Marcus is just an average American girl who re-engineers obsolete missile components for the U.S. Army from her bedroom. An agoraphobic, Jennifer is afraid to leave her house yet desperate to find true human connection with her birth mother in China/>/>. Using her technological genius, powers of persuasion, and a little help from her friend, she creates a new form of human contact; a walking, talking android named Jenny Chow. With her astounding creation ready to fly, Jennifer aims to make an intercontinental connection with the family she always wanted: her own.

A 2004 graduate of the Yale School of Drama, Jones received both the American Theatre Critics' Association Elizabeth Osborne Award for an Emerging Artist and Orange County Weekly's 2004 Best New Play Award for The Intelligent Design of Jenny Chow. His play The Jammer won the 2004 Edinburgh Fringe Festival Fringe First Award for Best New Writing prior to a New York International Fringe Festival staging. Jones is currently an NEA/TCG playwright-in-residence at Yale Repertory Theatre and a staff writer for Showtime's new series "Weeds," starring Mary Louise Parker.

SPT is currently presenting Kenneth Lonergan's Lobby Hero under the direction of Rita Giomi. Lobby Hero runs through April 30th.

When Jeff, a young and hapless security guard, is drawn into a local murder investigation, loyalties are strained to the breaking point. As Jeff's tightly wound supervisor is called to bear witness against his troubled brother and an attractive rookie cop finds she must stand up to her seasoned partner, the truth becomes much more difficult to define and righteousness could be the undeserving victim.

Seattle/>/> Public Theater is a mid-size, 501 (c) 3 non-profit professional theat er on the shores of Greenlake; specializing in mainstage theatre , youth theater education, late night improv, and music. SPT is dedicated to creating community through the performing arts.
