Balagan Theatre and New York City producer Katie Tomlinson Diamond presented a season preview party in June of Nirvanov, featuring television and stage star C.S. Lee (Dexter) and Van Hughes (American Idiot: The Musical, national tour) as rock legend Kurt Cobain/Nirvanov. Kirsten Delohr Helland and Williams A. Williams perform "Faded and Jaded" from the show. The Nirvanov ensemble was rounded out by Rebecca Fischer, Allen Fitzpatrick, Mari Nelson, Kirsten Delohr Helland, Solea Pfeiffer, Eli Lutz, Zac Stowell, Olivia Hamilton, Justin Huertas, and Eric Hagreen.

The workshop performance was directed by Nirvanov book and lyric writer David Karl Lee with original music byNandi Johannes, and music directed by Christopher D. Littlefield. The creative team was rounded by out Danielle Franich (Assistant Director) and Mat Wright (Assistant Music Director).

This musical play, which enjoyed a well-received 1999 run in New York, will open at Balagan in spring 2014 to coincide with the 20th anniversary of Cobain's death. Nirvanov will close Balagan's 2013-2014 mainstage season, which includes an intimate staging of LES MISERABLES starring Broadway veteran Louis Hobson, Carrie: The Musical starring Tony Award winner Alice Ripley, A Very Merry (Unauthorized) Children's Scientology Pageant, and Jerry Springer: The Opera.
