SHAKESPEARE AND THE AUTHORSHIP ISSUE Set for Kitsap Regional Library in April

By:

Join BPA Shakespeare Society Director Tom Challinor April 4, 16, and 22 for "Shakespeare and the Authorship Issue" - a program that will help both writers and speakers deepen their understanding of Shakespeare in a way that is both fun and informative.

There have long been doubts about the true identity of the writer who penned the masterpieces of the Elizabethan stage. Join Tom Challinor, Director of the BPA Shakespeare Society, for a mostly objective look at the controversy associated with the Bard of Stratford-on-Avon and who some of the alternative candidates might be.

These free community events will be held at three branches of the Kitsap Regional Library during April: at the Silverdale branch, 3450 NW Carlton St. on April 4 at 2:00 p.m.; at the Port Orchard branch, 87 Sidney Ave. at on April 16 at 3:00 p.m.; and at the Poulsbo branch, 700 NE Lincoln Road on April 22 at 7:00 p.m. Additional information is available through the Kitsap Regional Library at www.krl.org.

The off-site Shakespeare Speaker Series is provided as part of month-long celebration of the Bard at Bainbridge Performing Arts this April. Shakespeare enthusiasts may also enjoy Shakespeare in the BPA Garden - a special exhibit by Karen Challinor featuring four flagstones with Shakespearean quotes referencing the flowers that are blooming in BPA's front garden beds and four faerie gardens depicting scenes from Shakespeare's plays. Kim Scott-Olson's remarkable collection of arresting photographs from island Shakespeare productions will be displayed in "All the World's a Stage" in the BPA Gallery, including a special artist reception on April 3. On April 18 & 19, Tom Challinor joins the Bainbridge Symphony Orchestra performances of "Comedy and Tragedy with The BPA Shakespeare Society," in a program featuring music and drama drawn from and inspired by the works of Shakespeare.
