Mark Morris Dance Group Returns to The Paramount Theatre with Mozart Dances
Seattle Theatre Group (STG) presents Mark Morris Dance Group's acclaimed MOZART DANCES at The Paramount Theatre May 1-3, 2009 for three performances only. Formed in 1980, Mark Morris Dance Group is recognized as one of the world's leading dance companies and noted for its commitment to live music, a feature of every performance on its full international touring schedule since 1996. Seattle's premiere of MOZART DANCES will feature Seattle Symphony with pianists Garrick Ohlsson and Yoko Nozaki conducted by Stefan Asbury.
MOZART DANCES offers a visually stimulating, elegant, and often tender display of movement and technique. Set to two Mozart piano concertos - No. 11 in F and No. 27 in B-flat - flanking his Sonata in D for Two Pianos, the piece is danced against evocative backdrops by Howard Hodgkin with costume and lighting design by longtime Morris collaborators, Martin Pakledinaz and James F. Ingalls. This critically-acclaimed evening-length piece showcases Morris' skillful blending of folk dances, balletic partnering, and ensemble sculptures. Rich and rewarding, and performed with the Dance Group's trademark combination of lyricism and astounding precision, MOZART DANCES marks the company's highly anticipated return to Seattle after last season's L'Allegro, il Penseroso ed il Moderato.
MOZART DANCES was commissioned by Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts (New York), New Crowned Hope (Vienna), and the Barbican Centre (London).
STG will partner with MMDG in a wide range of community and educational programs throughout the area. Events vary media coverage and attendance should be arranged in advance through Amanda Bedell.
