Island Theatre Play Reading Set for Bainbridge Public Library This Weekend

By:

In advance of BPA's March presentation of SNOW FALLING ON CEDARS, Island Theatre presents a dramatic reading of selected letters to the Bainbridge Review from the 1940's through the 1970's to illustrate the role of a local paper in community life.

Dear Editor was originally produced by Island Theatre as part of the 2004 Bainbridge Island Humanities Inquiry, "Breaking News: The State of Today's Information Media." The playreading includes letters on such vital - and reoccurring - Bainbridge issues as dogs in Winslow, what to do about newcomers, rowdy teenagers, all-island government and, of course, the ferries. Central to the play, however, are letters for and against the exclusion of Bainbridge Island's Japanese residents during World War II as well as letters for and against their return to the island at the end of the war.

Dear Editor is directed by Diane Bankart and features Island Theatre board members as readers.

Performances for this free community event are today, February 21 and Sunday, February 22 at 7:30 p.m. at the Bainbridge Public Library, 1270 Madison Avenue North, Bainbridge Island. Additional information is available through Bainbridge Public Library at 206.842.4162. Further information is at Island Theater at 206.842.0985 or www.IslandTheatre.org

BPA's outreach programs for SNOW FALLING ON CEDARS are supported in part by a grant from Humanities Washington, a state-wide non-profit organization supported by the National Endowment for the Humanities, the State of Washington, and contributions from individuals and foundations. SNOW FALLING ON CEDARS is supported in part by a grant from the Washington State Arts Commission and the National Endowment for the Arts, and our generous sponsor is The Maggi Rogers Fund. BPA is supported, in part, by Bainbridge Community Foundation and One Call for All.
