Intiman Presents RUINED 'Farewell Cabaret,' 8/16

Intiman Theatre announces a one-night-only special event, the "Ruined Farewell Cabaret," on Monday, August 16 at 7 pm. The concert will feature members of the cast of Lynn Nottage's acclaimed play Ruined performing their favorite songs. Among the artists scheduled to appear are Condola Rashad (Sophie), David St. Louis (Commander Osembenga), Stephen Tyrone Williams (Simon and, recently, Cory Maxson in Fences at Seattle Repertory Theatre), musicians Simon Shabantu Kashama and Ron McBee, and company member Victoire Charles.

Daniel Breaker, a star of Shrek the Musical on Broadway and a Tony Award nominee for Passing Strange, will perform and also host the cabaret. A new Seattle resident, Breaker will star in Intiman's production of A Doctor in Spite of Himself in September.

Tickets, now available from www.intiman.org or 206.269.1900, are $50 for reserved seating and a party in the Intiman Courtyard with the cast and DJ Lady Lane following the concert.

The "Ruined Farewell Cabaret" will support Intiman's International Cycle presentation of Ruined this October at the Market Theatre, which became internationally renowned as South Africa's "Theatre of the Struggle" under apartheid.

Intiman is currently working with groups in and around Johannesburg to develop opportunities for conversations, programs and video testimonials in connection with the production. Leading Intiman's outreach efforts are Valerie Curtis-Newton and Vivian Phillips, the Artistic Director and the Managing Producer, respectively, of The Hansberry Project at ACT Theatre, who are traveling to South Africa this month to establish relationships with human rights organizations and women's rights groups.

Directed by Artistic Director Kate Whoriskey, Ruined extended at Intiman prior to opening and runs through August 15. This production will open at the Geffen Playhouse in Los Angeles on September 15, 2010.
