KING JOHN presented by GREENSTAGE, directed by Teresa Thuman
SHAKESPEARE IN THE PARK July 10 - August 15

The 13th Century has just begun and the English crown is being contested - both France and Austria are threatening war. Disagreement is at the core of a story filled with political intrigue, assassination plots, unfortunate accidents and the never-ending conflict between England and France.

Thoughts from Director, Teresa Thuman:
"When I consider the play, it seems to consistently juxtapose passionate and highly emotional scenes of desperation with calculated scenes of political manipulation, negotiation, shifting allegiances and grandstanding. While in the political scenes, they are debating the political impact of these huge human experiences - marriage, children, loyalty, faith, among others-- Shakespeare deliberately shifts between placing these ideas in a realm of negotiation and political maneuvering before moving to display the painful human ramifications of these discussions as exposed in the powerful emotional scenes."

Combining the ruthlessness of Richard III, the antics and moral uncertainty of Hamlet and the raw familial relationships of King Lear, you may find yourself in the world of a play that seems strangely familiar. This rarely produced gem is not to be missed.
