Director Bartlett Sher and STG Founder Ida Cole to Chat THE KING AND I and More in Seattle

By: Jan. 16, 2017

Seattle is near and dear to the hearts of two important theatre aficionados - director Bartlett Sher (Rodgers & Hammerstein's South Pacific, The Light in the Piazza, Awake and Sing! and many more) and Ida Cole, who, in 1994 purchased the ailing Paramount Theatre and brought it back to life, and then founded Seattle Theatre Group.

Both are appearing in Seattle this week, Thursday, January 19, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. for a community forum discussing their experiences in theatre on both coasts as well as their current production of THE KING AND I. The event will take place at Premiere on Pine, 1525 9th Avenue, Seattle WA 98101.

Set in the 1860s, THE KING AND I is based on the true story of Anna Leonowens, a widowed schoolteacher from Wales who travels to Siam to teach the King's many children. Her effect on the kingdom and the kingdom's effect on her are the basis of this beautiful and classic musical.

Directed by Tony Award winner Bartlett Sher, THE KING AND I won four 2015 Tony Awards including Best Revival of a Musical. Join director Bartlett Sher and Seattle Theatre Group founder Ida Cole for an open discussion regarding their experience with the Seattle and New York theatre communities.

THE KING AND I will play at Seattle's Paramount Theatre from January 24 through February 3, 2017.
