Back by popular demand, The 5th Avenue Theatre is pleased to welcome the exuberant holiday amusement Sing-along Sound of Music on Saturday, January 1, and Sunday, January 2. Taking its cue from the classic line from the much-loved film, "Life is not just meant to be watched - you're supposed to sing along," this evening of musical interactivity gives audiences a chance to boo the Baroness and the Nazis, cheer the plucky Von Trapps, and sing along to every well-known number in the classic Rodgers and Hammerstein score.

Costumes are not only encouraged, they are eligible for prizes. (Perennial favorite outfits include nuns, various Von Trapps, and even brown paper packages tied up with string!) Audience members are given bags of goodies (including such Sound of Music essentials as edelweiss), along with helpful tips on how to use them by their affable host, local composer/performer (and 5th Avenue favorite) Richard Gray. The main feature is, of course, the classic 1965 film projected on the big screen in irresistible Technicolor-complete with all the lyrics in subtitles.

Come along and sing your heart out along with hundreds of your fellow Von Trapp-heads!It's the perfect way to start 2011 with the greatest amount of joy, silliness, and all of your other favorite things!

Sing-along Sound of Music plays Saturday, January 1, at 1:00 PM and 7:00 PM, and Sunday, January 2 at 1:00 PM. Tickets are available online at 5thavenue.org, over the phone by calling 206-625-1900/toll-free 888-5TH-4TIX (584-4849), or in person at the box office at 1308 5th Avenue, downtown Seattle.
