2019 Gregory Awards Announce Non-Binary Performance Categories Image

The 2019 Gregory Awards, celebrating the 2018 - 2019 theatre season in the greater Seattle area, will move to incorporate non-binary performance categories.

The 11th Annual Gregory Awards will eliminate all binary male and female designations in the performance categories, replacing those categories with the gender-inclusive "Outstanding Performance" for each division, based on genre.

Theatre Puget Sound will be providing training to both incoming and existing Gregory Nominators, rooted in fundamentals of equity, diversity, and inclusion. Ariel Bradler, Executive Director of Theatre Puget Sound, states:

"This is a small step in our work towards a more inclusive experience for all of our members. This change allows us to address just one aspect of bias within our industry as we examine the whole of the awards through an equity lens. We look forward to working with our members, organizations, and community at large in the coming years to create a space which more fully represents our vibrant region of artists."

More details about these changes will be announced at a later date. About the Gregory Awards The Gregory Awards, produced by Theatre Puget Sound, honor theatre artists in the Seattle area for distinguished theatrical achievements, and are recognized as the most significant theatre awards in the Northwestern United States.
The Theatre Puget Sound's 10th Annual Gregory Awards, celebrating the 2017-2018 season, will be presented on Monday, October 22nd at Marion Oliver McCaw Hall in Seattle, WA.
