Through the Shortbread Tin at Scottish Storytelling Centre (Edinburgh Festival Fringe)

Through the Shortbread Tin is a poetic, poignant and playful show written and performed by Martin O'Connor, performed in Scots with Gaelic songs, which explores Scottish culture, myths, history and identity. The show revisits the story of James Macpherson and the legendary Scottish bard Ossian, questioning what it means to be authentic and whether truth can be told through myth. Directed by Joanna Bowman, O'Connor is joined on stage by Gaelic singers Josie Duncan, Iona Mairead, and Mairi McGillivray, singing original songs composed by Oliver Searle. The production was nominated for Best New Play at both the Critics' Awards for Theatre in Scotland 2025 and the UK Theatre Awards 2025.
