TOAST at Summerhall (Dissection Room)

TOAST is a debut work written and performed by Jude Green, a comedy about an actor living in poverty while navigating negotiations with employers, agents, and Universal Credit that begin to unravel. Drawing on lived experience, Green delivers a biting takedown of the UK benefits system, the cost-of-living crisis, and the question of whether society values art more than the people who make it. Directed by Debbie Hannan and starring Green alongside Jack Wakely, Artistic Director of Silent Faces, this two-hander follows a creative spiralling as every avenue becomes blocked. Selected as one of five winners of the Shedload-of-Future Fund 2026 from Francesca Moody's Sheinburgh, the show exposes the ridiculousness of how survival is treated in a system so broken it becomes almost laughable.
