THE GLITTER & DOOM SALON to Play Edinburgh Fringe
Glamorous cabaret, The Glitter & Doom Salon comes to the Edinburgh Fringe this August. A new late night variety show, the Salon showcases enigmatic cabaret stars and vaudeville artists performing their best glitter-filled and doom-inspired material alongside show emcee, the 'dark, dazzling formidable powerhouse' (Herald Sun) Jennifer Kingwell.
In this European premiere, Kingwell brings together her passion for subversive cabaret and the world of Tom Waits, one of the most distinctive and talented singer-songwriters of modern times. Inspired by the title of Tom Waits' last live album, The Glitter & Doom Salon delves into the essence of cabaret artistry: the interplay of glamour and tragedy. It serves as a heartfelt homage to the music of Waits himself, an artist beloved by the contemporary cabaret scene and one of the all-time great songwriters of the dive bar/theatre circuit.
The Glitter & Doom Salon is presented by Australian performer and broadcaster Jennifer Kingwell. With critically acclaimed Edinburgh, Adelaide and Melbourne Fringe seasons under her belt, Kingwell has handpicked the best that the Fringe has to offer from the worlds of cabaret, comedy, music, burlesque and circus/sideshow performance, drawing upon her love of showcasing underground talent as well as her diehard fandom of Tom Waits, to present an evening of breathtaking variety, spontaneity and devilish charm.
