The Sarasota Orchestra season features Symphonic Carnival December 8 - 10

The second Masterworks concert of the Sarasota Orchestra season will feature a program with popular composers and guest conductor Larry Rachleff.

The concert begins with Berlioz's Roman Carnival Overture and American violinist, Benjamin Beilman performing Barber's Violin Concerto. Beilman is recognized as one of the fastest rising stars of his generation.

The orchestra will then celebrate Leonard Bernstein's 100th birthday by performing his Symphonic Dances from West Side Story. West Side Story is a demonstration of a Broadway musical with the characteristics of high art according to Bernstein. The Symphonic Dances are derived from prominent scenes of the musical.

The concert ends with the Suite from The Firebird by Igor Stravinsky. The Firebird tells the story of a magic firebird that defeats an evil magician. The Firebird is considered one of Stravinsky's revered pieces.
