Artist Series Concerts of Sarasota Presents MALLETS AND FORETHOUGHT

Artist Series Concerts concludes its 2019 Sarasota Lunch & Listen series with Mallets and Forethought, featuring acclaimed area percussionist George Nickson. Nickson will be showcasing the versatility and sonority of the marimba with a program that includes selections from Debussy's Children's Corner Suite, Robert Oetomo's arrangement of Over the Rainbow, and many other musical surprises. The performance is on Thursday, March 21, at Michael's On East, 1212 South East Avenue, Sarasota. The concert begins at 11:00 a.m. followed by luncheon at 12:15 p.m. Tickets are $48 and are available online at www.ArtistSeriesConcerts.org or by calling 941-306-1202, Monday Friday, 10 a.m. 4 p.m. Note: Tickets must be purchased by Monday, March 18, at 4 p.m.

George Nickson, who critics have hailed as a formidable percussionist, has been the principal percussionist of the Sarasota Orchestra since 2012. A native of Port Saint Lucie, Nickson is a graduate of the Juilliard School and also performs regularly with the Boston Symphony, the Washington National Symphony, and the Detroit Symphony. Nickson also teaches at the Tanglewood Music Center and has performed regularly at Tanglewood as a soloist and in ensembles. A longtime advocate of contemporary music, in 2016 Nickson teamed up with Sarasota Orchestra violinist Samantha Bennett to launch ensembleNEWSRQ, the critically acclaimed contemporary music collective that created an immediate sensation on the area arts scene with its exciting programming and top-notch performance quality. (Gayle Williams, Sarasota Herald Tribune.)

Not only is George Nickson amazingly talented, his performances are inventive, fun, and always a musical tour de force says Joseph Holt, artistic director of Artist Series Concerts. This is going to be marimba like we've never heard it before.
