Before Hamilton, before In the Heights, there was Freestyle Love Supreme, the critically acclaimed Broadway hit from the minds of longtime friends Thomas Kail, Lin-Manuel Miranda, and Bay Area artist Anthony Veneziale.Launching its American tour at the Geary Theater, Freestyle Love Supreme pays homage to the improvisational yet fully informed musical landscape that has inspired artists from John Coltrane to Grandmaster Flash to Cardi B by taking audiences on a freestyle, never-before-seen-and-never-to-be-seen-again hip-hop comedy ride. Hailed as sophisticated and haphazard, hilarious and serious by Rolling Stone, no two shows will be alike, as performersand special guest artiststake suggestions from the audience and spin them into instantaneous riffs and full-length musical numbers. Conceived over 15 years ago and as fresh as todays Twitter feed, Bay Area audiences will be the very first to see this slam-dunk hit from todays most celebrated theater makers.
