Rhis week on AfroSolo TV is the award winning pianist, Tammy L. Hall. The live broadcast takes place at this Friday (December 19th) 6:30 pm on Comcast Cable Station 76 in San Francisco.

Ms. Hall began playing at the age of four, remembering songs and tunes she heard in church, on the radio, stereo, street - anywhere there was music playing. After receiving 'classical' lessons in second grade, Tammy's grandmothers pooled their resources for her to continue studies with private instruction. She accompanied, at age 9, on both piano and organ, the choirs of two churches, Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist Church in Dallas, Texas and the New Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church, some 35 miles away, in Terrell, Texas. After 2 years at Mills College, Tammy decided to pursue her own path - outside of the safety of academia, but an invaluable experience in music and life.

Her influences include: Dorothy Donegan, Mary Lou Williams, Nina Simone, Shirley Horne, Rhoda Scott, Aretha Franklin, Antonio Carlos Jobim, Tania Maria, Geri Allen, Beethoven, Lizst, Art Tatum, to name a few. Tammy has also had the express pleasure of accompanying Etta Jones, Denise Perrier, Linda Tillery, Houston Person, David "Fathead" Newman, Ernestine Anderson, Kim Nalley, Lady Mem'fis, Debbie DeCoudreaux along with many others

Future engagements include A Gospel Christmas with Kim Nalley at Biscuits and Blues, Tuesday December 23rd and MooreLove - Darlene Love and Melba Moore at the Rrazz Room at the Hotel Nikko, Saturday December 27th through January 4th.
