Sonoma State University Department Theatre Arts & Dance Sets Spring 2012 Concert for April 20-28

By:

Highlighted by professional choreography by Kristen Daley, Nancy Lyons, Scott Wells and Christine Cali, featuring new music by Jesse Olsen Bay and showcasing 30 dancers - the 2012 Spring Dance Concert will feature four contemporary, physical, athletic and humorous dance works as it explores the pleasure of dance; rituals and desire; human connections; and the technological state of being.

"Moe's Art," By Scott Wells.* Featuring music from Mozart, Smashing Pumpkins and "Amadeus," this dance piece explores speech and deconstruction; games and structured improvisation; chance dances and choreography and expresses dancing for the pleasure of dancing it and watching it.

"Kindle a Home Fire" By Nancy Lyons. Working with a collage of contemporary accordion music, cello and traditional Balinese chanting, "Kindle a Home Fire" explores ritual in our lives; the deep desire to be part of the pack; and how dancing continues to inspire the creation of tribes.

"face to FACE" By Kristen Daley. This dance piece asks "Connecting and re-connecting and staying connected through various virtual sites, are our lives more fulfilled…or less?" Then demonstrates through dance the need, desire and craving for physical contact...an embrace, a handshake, a hug and breath. Featuring new music by Jesse Olsen Bay.

"C.O.M.A." By Christine Cali.** This dance work examines the current technological phenomenon: Plugged into a technological state of being, unplugged from ourselves and each other, what happens next? Is it human experience or artificial existence? "C.O.M.A" considers "How do we evolve from here?"
