San Francisco's SHN and Humphry Slocombe Create Limited Edition INTO THE WOODS Inspired Ice Cream Flavor
To celebrate the opening of INTO THE WOODS at the SHN Golden Gate Theatre, Humphry Slocombe and SHN have collaborated on a limited edition ice cream flavor inspired by Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine's musical hit.
A production that intertwines stories from well-known fairytales, the plot orbits around a baker and his wife as they journey on a quest into the woods. Named after a complex leading role, Humphry Slocombe's Baker's Wife is an intricate confection of house-made brioche and graham crackers strewn throughout a full-bodied cloak of luscious brown butter ice cream. Much like the musical's characters and storylines, the individual ingredients shine on their own, but, when propelled together, become a greater production with playful textures and enticing layers, which compose a flavor-and show-that has something for everybody.
"I chose the Baker's Wife as inspiration because she is like many of us-particularly when she sings, 'Must it all be less or more, either plane or grand? Is it always or, is it never and?'" says Humphry Slocombe Co-Founder, Executive Chef, and Expert Baker Jake Godby. "She just wants a little more."
The limited edition ice cream is available at both Humphry Slocombe locations-2790 A Harrison Street (Mission Location) and 1 Ferry Building (Ferry Building Location)-throughout the month of March. A prominent ice-cream producer in San Francisco since 2008, Humphry Slocombe's previous SHN show-inspired flavors include "Wicked," "Cabaret," and "Hedwig and the Angry Inch." The San Francisco engagement of INTO THE WOODS comes to the SHN Golden Gate Theatre this March 7 through April 2, 2017.
