SHOWGIRLS! THE MUSICAL! to Receive West Coast Premiere in San Francisco This Summer

By:

Peaches Christ Productions and MediumFace Productions are proud to present the West Coast premiere of SHOWGIRLS! The Musical!, playing San Francisco's Victoria Theatre (2961 16th Street, San Francisco) for a limited two-week engagement from August 10-20, 2016.

Based on the 1995 so-bad-it's-good "cinematic masterpiece," SHOWGIRLS! The Musical! tells the story of the beautiful drifter, Nomi Malone, as she goes from stripper to showgirl in Las Vegas. Catching the glittery eye of Stardust Casino's superstar stripper, Cristal Connors, Nomi sees an opportunity for her desire to become real. But there is only room for one star on the marquee as the battle of the showgirls begins. Starring April Kidwell - direct from the New York engagement - as Nomi Malone and legendary drag queen Peaches Christ as Cristal Connors, SHOWGIRLS! The Musical! will have audiences singing, dancing...and thrusting in their seats!

The performance schedule for SHOWGIRLS! The Musical! is as follows: Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m. Press night will be held on Wednesday, August 10, 2016. Tickets range in price from $32-$45 and are available at the Victoria Theatre box office (2961 16th Street) or by visiting www.peacheschrist.com.

Says Peaches Christ: "After 18 years of celebrating the best movie ever made with our annual screening and signature pre-show, I really wanted to step things up a big notch for our 19th annual event. I'm thrilled to partner with MediumFace Productions on the West Coast premiere of this hilarious and brilliant full-length musical. It's got music! Dancing! Doggie chow! It's everything 'Showgirls' is all about. The show is an exciting new challenge for our production company and I'm confident we're going to create something that doesn't suck."

Written and directed by composing team Bob and Tobly McSmith, SHOWGIRLS! The Musical! made its debut in New York City in 2013 - where the critical and audience response was overwhelmingly positive. This off-off Broadway spoof of the 1995 film that won seven Razzie Awards, including Worst Actress (Elizabeth Berkley), Worst Director (Paul Verhoeven), Worst Screenplay, and Worst Screen Couple, stays true to the unintentionally campy nature of the film.

Under the direction of Joshua Granell (Peaches Christ), SHOWGIRLS! The Musical! stars April Kidwell* as Nomi Malone, Peaches Christ as Cristal Connors, Marcus Desion* as Molly, Tim Wagner as Kyle Maclachlan, Bobby Barnaby as Gay, Raya Light as Andrew Rapersoon, Rori Nogee* as Labia and Russian Roulette as Mittens.

The creative team for SHOWGIRLS! The Musical! includes Peter Fogel (Music Director), Ric Ray (Set Designer), Amie Sarazan (Costume Designer) and Sharon Boggs (Sound Designer).

For those who can't fathom the idea of eating brown rice and vegetables, grab that large, buttery popcorn because with every salty purchase, "snack" obsessed audience members will receive a personalized lap dance by Peaches' legion of live "dude-girls," to get you in the mood and make you feel like you're back at the Cheetah strip lounge. As Peaches would say, "the show is about to begin," with her signature "Free Lap Dances with Every Large Popcorn." Tips from the Free Lap Dances will be donated to The Shanti Project.

Get the party started early! In anticipation of SHOWGIRLS! The Musical, Peaches Christ Productions and Showgirls! The Musical! will be partnering with The Shanti Project at this year's San Francisco Pride Parade held on Sunday, June 26. Be on the lookout for The Shanti Project's contingent of drag queens, showgirls...and Peaches Christ herself!

SHOWGIRLS! The Musical! would also like to acknowledge its sponsors: Galleria Park Hotel, Harvey Milk Center For The Performing Arts, The Lab and Sasha Soprano Presents.

SHOWGIRLS! The Musical! contains nudity, strong language and mature themes. It is age restricted to 18+ only. No exceptions.
