By:
ROSS VALLEY PLAYERS presents their RAW (Ross Alternative Works) 2016 production, February 18 through March 6, featuring the World Premiere of Arches, Balance and Light, by Bay Area playwright Mary Spletter. Each season, RAW presents a full-length production, which may include two-act plays or short works selected for quality and originality. A moderated discussion with the writers follows each program, encouraging constructive feedback, criticism and ideas to the benefit of writers and audience alike. www.rossvalleyplayers.com

Arches, Balance and Light is inspired by the life of Julia Morgan, California's first woman licensed architect. Bay Area playwright Mary Spletter, who hastens to add that any resemblance to the life of architect Julia Morgan is purely intentional. She combines fiction and historical fact to suggest that history has misunderstood this iconic architect. In the play, Morgan looks back over her long career to ask whether she has any regrets over her choices in life. The answers certainly will inform you about the hurdles she had to overcome to achieve her dream and may even offer surprises.

Full cast: Elder Julia Morgan (Ellen Brooks), Marguerite (Anastasia Bonaccorso), Young Julia Morgan (Caroline Scippa), Victor (Robin Schild), and Cedric/Montgomery/Porter (John Simpson).

Performances are Thursday, February 18th through Sunday, March 6th. Thursday performances are at 7:30PM; Fridays and Saturdays at 8PM; Sunday matinees at 2PM. All performances take place at the Barn Theatre, home of the Ross Valley Players - 30 Sir Francis Drake Blvd, Ross, CA 94957. Ticket prices are $20 General Admission, $10 Students/Youth. Now in its 86th year, Ross Valley Players, a non-profit arts organization, is the oldest continually operating community theater on the West Coast. Created in 1930 as a way to escape the hardships of the Depression, Ross Valley Players has introduced live theater to thousands of Marin residents over the years. Each year, RVP presents a regular season of six full productions, running a total of 30 weeks. RVP offers special events and short-term productions outside the regular season. Plays include recent Broadway material, popular plays, classic theater, and a selection of works by well-known playwrights from around the world. RVP features all genres: comedy, drama, mysteries, and musicals.

Their Ross Valley Alternative Works (RAW) is dedicated to the staging and production of original, provocative and exciting new works by Bay Area playwrights. We tap into the vast pool of local creative theatre artists to provide high quality technical and production values. This approach has brought visibility and acclaim to those who might never have had the opportunity otherwise.
