Due to overwhelming response from eager audiences, TheatreWorks' moving production of Chaim Potok's classic tale, THE CHOSEN, is adding performances, and will now extend its run through November 8 at the Mountain View Center for the Performing Arts. THE CHOSEN, adapted for the stage by Chaim Potok and Aaron Posner is the classic uplifting tale of fathers and sons, faith and family, featuring Bay Area theatre veteran Corey Fischer, with The Jewish Theatre of San Francisco (formerly A Traveling Jewish Theatre) Artistic Director Aaron Davidman at the helm.
Warmth, wisdom, and generosity illuminate the unlikely friendship of two teenagers from very different Jewish communities, "five blocks and a world apart." Discovering in one another a portal to new ideas and unexplored worlds, each must chart his course through a sea of conflicting expectations. The San Francisco Chronicle said THE CHOSEN "packs a hefty punch," while the San Jose Mercury News called it "heartwarming... richly lyrical." The Daily News concurred, dubbing the show "impressive...a feast for the intellect...an offering to heart and spirit." The Palo Alto Weekly adds that THE CHOSEN is "powerful, moving...appropriately touches the heart."
