Lynn Nottage's RUINED Set for Aurora Theatre's Final Aurora Script Club Meeting, 7/15
Berkeley's acclaimed Aurora Theatre Company presents the final Aurora Script Club meeting of the season with Lynn Nottage's RUINED on July 15, 2013.
Nottage wrote Ruined while visiting the Democratic Republic of Congo in 2005; she was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Drama for the play. During the same year, Neil LaBute's This Is How It Goes opened at The Public Theater in New York. Aurora Theatre Company Education Director Michael Mansfield hosts this moderated discussion series, examining the similarities and differences between these two provocative plays. The Aurora Script Club was conceived and developed by Aurora Theatre Company Artistic Director Tom Ross. All of the Script Club selections for the season are plays that are penned by female playwrights.Closing Aurora's 21st season is the Bay Area Premiere of Neil LaBute's dark, edgy comic drama This is How It Goes, directed by Aurora Theatre Company Artistic Director Tom Ross, and featuring Aldo Billingslea, Gabriel Marin, and Carrie Paff. This is How It Goes presents a one-two punch after LaBute's Fat Pig (staged at Aurora in 2009), tweaking perspectives of truth and interpretation to broach sharp questions about race, love, and manipulation. Called "smart and stylish" by New York Magazine, This is How It Goes unblinkingly challenges notions of gender, ethnicity, and love itself, exploring the myriad ways in which the wild card of race is played by both black and white America. This is How It Goes plays June 14 through July 21 at the Aurora Theatre in Berkeley.
The meeting is set for Monday, July 15, 2013, 7:30pm at the Aurora Theatre, 2081 Addison Street, Berkeley, Calif. Aurora Script Club is free and open to the public; for more information about Script Club or This is How It Goes, the public can call (510) 843-4822 or visit auroratheatre.org.
