Los Altos Stage Company Announces 2018-19 Season

Los Altos Stage Company's 2017-2018 season brought critical praise, packed houses, and a clutch of Theatre Bay Area Recommendations. Now LASC keeps the momentum going with a slate of pleasing, provocative, and powerful plays and musicals for the 2018-2019 season.

The season kicks off with the sassy and spirited comedy The Legend of Georgia McBride by Matthew Lopez. Casey is a young, broke Elvis impersonator with a rent check due and a baby on the way. When his act is replaced by a B-Level drag show, Casey finds he has a whole lot to learn about show business-and himself. The Legend of Georgia McBride has its South Bay premiere September 6th - September 30th.

The holiday season brings about a production of an American musical classic with Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine's masterpiece Into the Woods. Stringing together the famous fairy tales penned by The Brothers Grimm and Charles Perrault, Into the Woods explores the intriguing question, "what happens after 'happily ever after?'" Into the Woods plays November 29th - December 23rd.

Following the already classic Into the Woods is a classic in the making, American Night: The Ballad of Juan Jose by Richard Montoya. The first play in the Oregon Shakespeare Festival's celebrated "American Revolutions" series, American Nightfollows righteous Mexican police officer Juan Jose as he feverishly studies for his citizenship exam. His obsession takes him on a fantastical odyssey through U.S. history, guided by a handful of unsung citizens who made courageous choices in some of the country's toughest times. American Night plays January 24th - February 17th.

LASC returns to the established classics with John Steinbeck's immortal classic, The Grapes of Wrath, adapted by Frank Galati. The Joad family is traveling from Oklahoma to California to escape the ravages of the Dust Bowl. Fiercely proud but reduced to poverty, volatile young Tom Joad grows increasingly impatient with the intolerance and exploitation the family encounters. Tackling the issues of income inequality and class discrimination, The Grapes of Wrath is a story that is more resonant in the 21st Century than ever before. It plays April 11th - May 5th

Closing out the 2018-2019 season is the musical Next to Normal. Diana and Dan seem to have the ideal American family, with a solid suburban existence and intelligent, wise-cracking teenage children. But Diana has been battling manic depression and bipolar disorder for the past sixteen years. Winner of the 2009 Tony Award for best original score and the 2010 Pulitzer Prize for Drama, Next to Normalgracefully handles a complex subject and explores an all-too-familiar American pain in a moving and honest way. Next to Normal plays May 23rd - June 23rd.
