Liss Fain Dance Debuts AFTER THE LIGHT, January 9-12

By: Oct. 11, 2013
Liss Fain Dance is proud to announce its 2014 home season featuring the world premiere of After the Light, a performance installation created in collaboration with visual designer Matthew Antaky, costume designer Mary Domenico and composer Dan Wool. After the Light runs January 9 - 12, 2014 at Z Space in San Francisco. After the Light is the third venture in as many years of Artistic Director Liss Fain with partners Antaky, Domenico and Wool. Under Fain's direction, the artists have once again opted for the more casual format of performance installation. The world premiere at Z Space continues their exploration of the challenges and opportunities afforded by an audience empowered with the choice to sit, stand or move about. For After the Light, Antaky has created an environment defined by shifting geometries of light. "This work is about the boundaries we create that shape our lives," says Fain, "boundaries that we perceive as impassable, malleable, clear-cut, vague, unseen." Fain's movement is interwoven with a commissioned score by Wool and spoken text from Virginia Woolf's The Waves. Since it's founding in Boston in 1988, Liss Fain Dance has premiered over 45 works and collaborated with individuals and creative organizations that include MIT's Center for Advanced Visual Studies, The Exploratorium and The Apple Multimedia Lab. Non-narrative, highly structured and emotionally resonant, the company's work fuses modern dance's forceful energy with the kinetic precision of ballet. The dancers in After the Light are Jeremiah Crank, Katharine Hawthorne, Megan Kurashige,Shannon Kurashige, Alec Lytton and Carson Stein. Tickets are $30 in advance, $35 at the door and $15 for students and seniors. They may be purchased online at zspace.org, or by calling 1-800-838-3006.
