LOST LOVE Plays the Mojo Theatre, 10/24-11/17

By:

Peter Papadopoulos directs the west coast premiere of his climate change comic tragedy Lost Love at the new Mojo Theatre.

Lost Love follows two pairs as they battle for survival and love in a world on the brink. The waters are rising fast in this global warming world and everyone and everything is melting down.

Mitzy, a waterlogged, wedding-day bride is trapped on a mountaintop with Tito, a streetwise, Zen-wise parking valet after violent flooding rips through her wedding. Outside of the flood's reach, another storm is brewing. Barb has cheated on her longtime partner, Jan, whose explosive grief is shaking their house to pieces.

The show features the video appearances of the Brooding French Art Film Guy, as Jan seeks salvation in the end-of-the-world philosophy of his Discovery Channel documentary.

The show’s fusion of modern media with old-school theatre, energized by a raucous far-ranging performance style, epitomizes what Papadopoulos and his peers like to call Mojo Theatre.

“The goal is to blend all the creative strengths of traditional theatre with the possibilities of modern technology to create the kind of show that both theatre-goers, as well as those who don’t normally attend theatre, will find both entertaining and meaningful,” said Papadopoulos.

“We believe that a more modern, more entertaining theatre is the path to bringing in a new generation of people,” said Papadopoulos. “Only nine percent of Americans attend theatre right now, I’d like to see that closer to ninety-nine percent.”

Lost Love is part of a trilogy of plays Papadopoulos is writing that Bedlam Theatre in Minneapolis, previous producers of the play, dubbed the “Love-Gone-Wrong-at-the-End-of-the-World-Trilogy”. In addition to the Minneapolis production, Lost Love has been produced by Hypatia Theatre in Chicago.

Last Love, another completed part of the trilogy, has been produced in Australia and is published by Playscripts.

Lost Love runs Wednesday-Saturday, October 24-November 17, 8pm. Tickets are $28, available at http://mojotheatre.brownpapertickets.com/ or by cash at the theatre.

The theatre is located inside the historic Redstone Building in the San Francisco Mission District, just one block from the 16th St. BART station. The theatre is located on the second floor.
