Jack Paglen Takes Over DRACULA Stage Project At Cinnabar Theater, Opens 11/5

By:

Don't be horrified because screenwriter Eric Overmyer had to put aside the current "Dracula" stage project he was working on with Cinnabar Theater in Petaluma.

Los Angeles screenwriter Jack Paglen couldn't wait to sink his teeth into the project and has written and delivered an original play about the vampire popularized in the 1897 novel by Bram Stoker. The one-act play, paired with opera "The Medium," makes its debut at Cinnabar Theater on Nov. 5.

"Due to circumstances beyond his control, playwright and screenwriter Eric Overmyer was unable to complete the 'Dracula' project in time for our rehearsal schedule - but, he has assured us that Cinnabar Theater will get his script when it is complete," said Cinnabar Theater director Elizabeth Craven. "In the
meantime the incredibly talented, emerging screenwriter, Jack Paglen of Los Angeles, has taken on the commission and provided us an exciting world premiere of his own. So, we get two for one," said Craven.

"Jack agreed to step in and immediately found his stride with a spoof on the current vampire craze," said Cinnabar Theater Executive Director Elly Lichenstein.

Paglen's one-act play, entitled "We *Heart* U, Nosferatu!" satirizes the current obsession with vampire lore, as portrayed in movies and television, including the popular "Twilight" film series.

"Jack has written and delivered a media savvy, witty and intelligent play," said Lichenstein." Vlad the Impaler (also known as Count Dracula) agrees to video chat with the young and beautiful Mary Anne Wexler, a devoted fan of vampire fiction. Mary Anne has always dreamed of meeting a vampire. Vlad has always
dreamed of a world full of people just like Mary Anne. But, there's a twist. The pursuer becomes the pursued."

Cinnabar Theater offers up Paglen's new play in a supernatural-double-bill-thriller, pairing it with Gian Carlo Menotti's "The Medium," an opera about a murderous séance experience.

Cinnabar's "Dracula/The Medium" performances will be presented 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 2 p.m. Sundays from Nov. 5 to Nov. 21, 2010. For tickets or more information call 707-763-8920 or visit www.cinnabartheater.org
