Indra's Net Theater Presents DELICATE PARTICLE LOGIC, Now thru 11/23

Indra's Net Theatre focuses on the close ties between science and art in staging the world premiere of Jennifer Blackmer's Delicate Particle Logic. Directed by Bruce Coughran, the play reveals the intertwined lives of two women, one a physicist, the other a painter, working in Germany as the Nazis take over. Delicate Particle Logic runs today, October 30-November 23 at the Osher Studio, 2055 Center Street in downtown Berkeley.

Blackmer's play explores a meeting between physicist Dr. Lise Meitner and painter Edith Hahn, wife of famed German chemist Otto Hahn. The complicated swirl of their intertwined lives, two women and one man, mixes with the violent upheavals in the world, as the Nazis take over Germany and everything changes.

Lise Meitner was undoubtedly one of the most brilliant physicists of the 20th century. Under the harshly male-dominated science elite of the time, she broke through to become the leader of a major scientific institute, and the first woman to have the title of "Professor" in all of Germany. During her long-time association with chemist Otto Hahn, she began a series of experiments that led to the discovery of nuclear fission, a discovery that changed the world.

"Come see the story of the discovery of nuclear fission, the confusions of a history re-written by politics, and the struggle to maintain valued relationships (and a sense of pride) in a time of tremendous stress. You may never see the splitting of the atom, or a painting, the same way again," says director Coughran.

Delicate Particle Logic runs October 30 through November 23 at the Osher Studio in downtown Berkeley. Tickets are $28 General; $22 for Students and Seniors.
