With music and lyrics by ABBA's Björn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson and a book by Catherine Johnson, this timeless musical tells the hilarious story of a young woman's search for her birth father. This sunny and funny tale unfolds on a Greek island paradise, where on the eve of her wedding, a daughter's quest to discover the identity of her father brings three men from her mother's past back to the island they last visited 20 years ago. The story-telling magic of ABBA's timeless songs propels this enchanting tale of love, laughter and friendship, creating an unforgettable show. A mother. A daughter. Three possible dads. And a trip down the aisle audiences will never forget!
Featuring smash hits from the Swedish rock group such as the titular "Mamma Mia!," "Dancing Queen," "SOS," "Money, Money, Money," and more, Mamma Mia! was nominated for five Tony Awards and three Drama Desk Awards. It premiered in the West End in 1999 and has been performed in more than 40 countries across five continents, including: Belgium, Greece, Japan, New Zealand, South Africa and the United Arab Emirates. The popular film adaptation was released in July 2008 and featured much of the creative team from the original London production, starring Meryl Streep, Amanda Seyfried, and Pierce Brosnan.
"We can't wait to send everyone into the summer season with a trip to a Greek island paradise," says Dan Demers, Hillbarn Theatre's Executive Artistic Director.
