Gallo Center Opens Kennedy Center LOCOMOTION Performances Available to Public

Two special 'Spring Break' performances of the Kennedy Center Theater for Young Audiences production of 'Locomotion' at the Gallo Center for the Arts have just been made available to the public. Originally only offered to students through the arts education program, the Center opened the 11:00AM and 4:00PM shows on Tuesday, April 3, 2012 to the community to accommodate others interested in attending the play, including children and their families who may be on spring break vacation at that time. 

Based off Jacqueline Woodson's Coretta Scott King Honor book, 'Locomotion' tells the story of 11-year old Lonnie Collins Motion – nicknamed Locomotion – who lives in foster care and is who is still mourning the loss of his parents who died tragically in a house fire four years earlier. Lonnie is also haunted by the bullying he experienced at a group home and his subsequent separation from his younger sister, Lili. With his pain bottled up inside, Lonnie eventually responds to his teacher's encouragement to write his thoughts and feelings in poetry. The show is recommended for ages 9 and up.
