CMT San Jose Mainstage Presents A GENTLEMAN'S GUIDE TO LOVE AND MURDER

CMT Mainstage, featuring local performers ages 14-20 in two rotating casts,* will present the 2014 Best Musical Tony Award-winner, A Gentleman's Guide to Love & Murder, with artistic team of Kevin Hauge, Ian Leonard, and Daniel Hughes.

A Gentleman's Guide to Love & Murder is based on a 1907 novel by Roy Horniman entitled Israel Rank: The Autobiography of a Criminal. The musical has a book by Robert L. Freedman, music by Steven Lutvak,
lyrics by Robert L. Freedman and Steven Lutvak.

The story: This witty musical comedy takes place in 1907 London and centers on Monty Navarro, a penniless clerk who is informed after his mother dies that he is ninth in line to inherit the Earldom of Highhurst, controlled by the wealthy D'Ysquith banking family. After the arrogant ruling Lord brushes aside Monty's claim of being a relative, the eight D'Ysquiths ahead of young Mr. Navarro begin dying in natural and unnatural ways. Can he knock off his unsuspecting relatives without being caught, and become the ninth Earl of Highhurst? And what of love? Because murder isn't the only thing on Monty's mind. As he tries to woo money-minded Sibella Hallward, Monty finds himself drawn to young Phoebe D'Ysquith. So how will all these convoluted storylines come together?
