Bruce Vilanch, Sharon McNight To Appear At The Razz Room 5/12-5/17

Bruce Vilanch, comic writer and performer, and Sharon McNight, a singer known for her bawdy songs and Sophie Tucker tribute, plays The Rrazz Room, Hotel Nikko, 222 Mason, SF, Tuesday May 12-Sunday, May 17. One of the most sought-after joke writers in the entertainment industry, Bruce Vilanch is a recognizable face in his own right, thanks to the feature-length documentary "Get Bruce!" and his as a regular on "Hollywood Squares" for which he also served as head writer. Vilanch began contributing to Academy Awards telecasts in 1989, collaborating with the likes of Billy Crystal, Whoopi Goldberg and David Letterman, and graduated to head writer in 2000. He also wrote Bette Midler's "You Made Me Watch You," the touching Emmy-winning valedictory Midler crooned as a send-off to Johnny Carson when he left the Tonight Show.

Sharon McNight made her Broadway debut in 1989 in Starmites, creating the role of Diva. She received a Tony Award nomination as "Best Leading Actress in a Musical" for her performance, and is the recipient of the coveted Theatre World Award for "Outstanding Broadway Debut." She has six solo recordings to her credit, including "Offensive Too, Volume Two" which is the second CD of "Songs To Offend Almost Everyone", a throwback to the party records of the 50's. In contrast is "The Sophie Tucker Songbook", which contains the music of her one- woman show based the show business legend. Sharon played Sister Hubert in Nunsense in San Francisco, where she received the Bay Area Critics Circle Award. She has won six San Francisco Cabaret Gold awards, 3 Cable Car Awards, a MAC award, a Bistro award, and a Nightlife award. Her eclectic repertory ranges from blues to country to good old fashioned entertainment. Ms. McNight received her Masters of Arts degree in direction from San Francisco State College. She is a master teacher on the faculty of the Yale Cabaret Symposium.
