Boxcar Theatre announces the final performance venues for their upcoming production of Euripides’ Ion. Performed as part of Boxcar Theatre’s Free Theatre Initiative, all nine performances are free of charge to all audiences. Featuring three Boxcar company members, Peter Matthews (also one of the Artistic Directors of Boxcar), Stephanie Maysonave, and Sarah Savage, Ion pushes all three actors to test their limits as they all share all seven characters.
In true Boxcar fashion, this show will be performed and directed by The Ensemble. Guided by Boxcar newcomer, Claire Zawa, the Boxcar Players are working to create unique characters that are inhabited by each of them at different points throughout the play. Through a rigorous rehearsal process, every character has been developed with a specific physical and vocal life so that The Audience will recognize them when they come on stage regardless of who is playing the role at any given time.
Performed at various outdoor locations throughout San Francisco, this show will bring us back to the true meaning of theatre. So bring a blanket and a picnic and prepare for an afternoon to remember. When & Where: For the most up to date list of locations with directions and maps, please check our website at www.boxcartheatre.org.May 9th – Eastern San Francisco 1:00pm – Washington Square Park at the Benjamin Franklin statue near Columbus and Powell Streets2:30pm – The Pacific Avenue Mall (at Pacific and Front Streets) at the fountain sculpture4:00pm – The fountain at Justin Herman Plaza at Embarcadero CenterMay 16th – Northern San Francisco 1:00pm – West Bluff Amphitheatre at the Western end of Crissy Field near Fort Point2:30pm – The Palace of Fine Arts on the lawn across the pond from the Rotunda
